friesland, amsterdam
this photostory is a glimpse at one super nice day during an overnight trip some friends and I took with our abroad program to friesland a couple weeks ago.
the abroad program organized a *sober* mandatory speed dating activity, which was kind of the worst (cue social anxiety). at least they felt bad enough about forcing social interaction to give us each 6 free drink tickets...
there was actually a carnival in town the weekend we visited. gretchen, devon, and i were super excited to play with this fluffy cotton candy, but the best surprise were these fried dough balls that also happened to be vegan! because our program's vegan options were seriously limited, we went out to lunch at a restaurant that didn't have anything vegan on the menu, but the waitress was so accommodating and made us a delicious and super filling meal of salad, pumpkin soup, tomato soup, and a bread board with sundried tomato spread. don't be afraid to ask for a vegan option, even if it's not on the menu because, even if your server isn't as accommodating, you'll likely get them thinking about something they aren't usually confronted with.
all in all, i think we made the best of a mandatory school trip with forced social interaction... and i got to take an excessively awkward photo with some grown men dressed as smurfs...
